Eric hails from Lancaster County in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. His father was raised Amish and responded to the Gospel at the age of 19. Eric responded to Christ in the atmosphere of a Christian home and through the witness of his parents. At the age of 17 he felt the call of God to preach the Gospel in cross-cultural ministry. After earning an under graduate degree in Christian Missions and a graduate degree in Theology, he and his best friend and wife, Barb, embarked upon what was to become a 23 year church planting and translation ministry in a small Micronesian nation, the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Barb was raised in a military family (Air force) and saw the world at an early age. Christ captured her as a teenager while her family was stationed in Guam, USA. Her exposure to island culture gave her a vision for future cross-cultural ministry. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, she and Eric embarked on a church planting ministry in the Marshall Islands. They have four children: Cherith (Fisher) Horton, Bethany, Jim, and Anna. Barb and Eric are thankful for the education and on-the-job training they have received over the past 30 years. Yet, only the grace of God in Christ has brought benefit out of any of these experiences. Both Eric and Barb are amazed and awed by God’s loving and gracious work in transitioning them from a long-term ministry in the Marshalls, to Stateside ministry in Clemson. They are humbled that God’s greatest glory is revealed when his sons and daughters delight in Him above all else, and are excited about learning to live the Gospel in their lives and in the Clemson community.
Dan Smetana grew up Chardon, OH, a small town near Cleveland. He was saved as a freshman in high school and felt the call to preach in full-time ministry shortly after his salvation.
He completed a B.A. in Bible in 2005 and Master of Divinity in 2010 from Bob Jones University. He began working at UBC part time in 2006, assisting with the music. In September of 2007 he became a part time assistant pastor, focusing on music and youth.
In 2010, following the completion of his seminary training and ordination, the church called him to serve as a full time assistant pastor for youth and music..
